The use of mainland-based Unionpay cards in Taiwan has been extended to online stores, according to an announcement from China UnionPay and the National Credit Card Center in Taiwan.

This is another big step after the cards have been widely used in department store transactions, cash withdrawal and advance.

Su Ning, Chairman of China UnionPay, said that holders of the mainland cards can shop or reserve services in Taiwan at home through the Unionpay online payment system. It is efficient, safe and convenient.

China UnionPay will strengthen its cooperation with the Taiwan-based organizations as required by the strengthening of cross-Straits exchange and cooperation, to make the card better serve people across the Strait.

Wang Rongzhou, Chairman of the National Credit Card Center said, “The UnionPay online payment provides not only a new Unionpay payment choice for Taiwanese online stores, but also more business opportunities. And it also encourages cross-Strait economic exchanges.”
