China releases three indices for strategic emerging industries

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Securities Information Company jointly released three indices for strategic emerging industries on Feb. 1, including the Shenzhen Strategic Emerging Industries Index, SME Board Strategic Emerging Industries Index, and ChiNext Strategic Emerging Industries Index.

The samples of the three indices are 200 companies, 100 companies and 100 companies respectively. All three indices take June 30, 2010 as the base day, and 1,000 points as the base point.

The market capitalization of the Shenzhen Strategic Emerging Industries Index, SME Board Strategic Emerging Industries Index, and ChiNext Strategic Emerging Industries Index stands at over 1.4 trillion yuan, nearly 664 billion yuan, and 344.7 billion yuan, accounting for 22 percent, 24 percent, and 46 percent, respectively, of the total market capitalization of corresponding sectors.

The free-float market capitalization of the three indices stands at 654.5 billion yuan, 240.4 billion yuan, and 106.1 billion yuan, accounting for 25 percent, 28 percent, and 51 percent, respectively, of the total free-float market capitalization of corresponding sectors.

Strategic emerging industries are the main driving force for industrial structure optimization. The three indices will facilitate market analysis and investment evaluation.
