German car makers Volkswagen and BMW announced Monday that they are recalling more than 500,000 vehicles due to possible technical problems.

BMW said that it has began to recall a total of 235,000 cars of its Mini brand worldwide due to a possible malfunction of the electric water pump that cools the turbo charger. Of all the recalled cars, BMW would recall 3,406 vehicles in China.

Although there is a problem with the water pump, no accident related to the possible malfunction has been reported.

BMW will notify the car owners and dealers in advance and will replace the water pump for free.

Volkswagen said that the company has been recalling 299,000 cars with diesel engines since October 2011 due to possible problems caused by cracks in the fuel-injection system.

Volkswagen said that it will recall its Golf, Passat, Jetta, Tiguan and other models produced since 2009.
