Apple recently halted the sales of iPhone 4S in its Beijing and Shanghai retail stores, because of a large number of scalpers who seek to buy up limited supplies of the popular smartphone and resell it for big profits.

Scalpers hoarding iPhones like crazy

IPhone 4S scalpers caused near-riot at almost all Apple retail stores in China before the launch of the phone.

Apple fans in China are eager to buy an iPhone 4S, and many Internet users have condemned the scalpers for hoarding the phone like crazy.

An employee at the Apple retail store in Beijing’s Xidan Joy City shopping center said that the company has limited the number of iPhone 4S a person can buy and required ID registration from each buyer, but can do nothing about scalpers who hire others to wait in line to buy iPhone 4S.

Qiu Baochang, head of the lawyers’ group of the China Consumers’ Association and a legal adviser to the Beijing Consumers’ Association, said that scalpers who has disturbed the market order and damaged consumers’ interests should receive legal punishments. Related government agencies should introduce strict rules to regulate the market.
