HONG KONG, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The fifth Asian Financial Forum(AFF) will be held in Hong Kong, under the theme "Asia: Driving Sustainable Growth", on Jan. 16-17.

"With Asia's growing role in the global economy, the forum's fifth edition will focus on opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region," said Benjamin Hung, Chairman of the AFF 2012 Steering Committee, addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

"It is expected that the Asian countries will be affected by the overall economic downturn, but the region is widely expected to outperform major advanced economies, especially the Chinese mainland," said Hung, who is also the executive director and chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd.

Jointly organized by the HKSAR government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the two-day financial summit will discuss key issues such as global investment prospects, China opportunities and sustainable growth initiatives.

A wide variety of prominent speakers, such as George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, United Kingdom; Haruhiko Kuroda, president, Asian Development Bank; Yao Gang, Vice Chairman, China Securities Regulatory Commission; David Lipton, First Deputy Managing Director, International Monetary Fund are expected to attend the event.

Other speakers include Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, chairman of HSBC Holdings Plc Douglas Flint and president of China International Capital Corporation Ltd Levin Zhu.
