BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The China Television Artists Association (CTAA) established a branch with Xinhua News Agency Thursday, a move aimed at cultivating more TV talents in order to boost the country's drive to promote its soft power.

By launching the branch, the CTAA hopes to find and train more TV artists and build up the Chinese TV sector's strength in going global, CTAA Chairman Zhao Huayong said at the inauguration ceremony.

Prior to the establishment of the Xinhua branch, the CTAA had set up a branch with another state media organization, China Central Television.

Founded in May 1985, the CTAA counts more than 6,000 individuals and a few other organizations as members. It presents the Golden Eagle Awards, a prestigious national television award, and hosts an annual TV festival for college students.

Xinhua established its TV news network, China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC), in 2009. The news agency also launched a 24-hour Chinese-language channel on Jan. 1, 2010, and an English-language TV channel six months later.

Both channels were backed by the agency's domestic and overseas network of correspondents and now employ hundreds of staff that include news anchors and TV journalists.

In a bid to diversify its products, CNC launched a music website on Monday.
