BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's lottery sales surged 31.1 percent year-on-year in November, slowing from the 35.6 percent annual increase recorded in October, the Ministry of Finance said Thursday.

Lottery sales reached 21 billion yuan (3.3 billion U.S. dollars) in November, the ministry said in a statement.

Of the total, welfare lottery ticket sales reached 11.9 billion yuan, up 28.9 percent year-on-year.

Sales of sports lottery tickets jumped 34.1 percent from a year earlier to 9.1 billion yuan.

In the first 11 months of the year, lottery sales amounted to 199.1 billion yuan, up 33.6 percent year-on-year, the statement said.

It noted that 31 provincial-level regions saw lottery sales rise in November from a year earlier, with Jiangsu province posting the largest increase of more than 1 billion yuan.

The money raised through lotteries is divided into the jackpot, lottery management fees, and lottery public funds, according to regulations.
