The city of Xi'an now has plans to build two cloud computing projects and a large cloud computing base by the end of 2015, according to a statement released at the 2011 Shaanxi Internet Conference which ended on Sunday in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province.

The two cloud computing projects will cover several sectors of public service, tourism, transportation and medical services. The cloud computing base is expected to attract world-class cloud computing enterprises. The city also has plans to establish industrial clusters consisting of more than one hundred enterprises which are expected to have a combined annual revenue of 10 trillion yuan ($1.6 trillion).

"Cloud computing has already been included into the 12th Five-Year plan (2011-15) for national strategic emerging industries. Industries like transportation, construction and medical services where the technologies could be used, will all benefit," a manager of the Shuguang Information Industry Company, a cloud computing service provider, told the Global Times.

With the theme "Internet Shaanxi: Dream and Breakthrough," the conference was held in a bid to boost the integration and creation of the Internet industry throughout the province, and it mainly covered four subjects including mobile Internet, new media, cloud computing, and E-commerce.

Statistics from Internet World Stats showed the number of Internet users nationwide reached 457 million by the end of 2010, and the figure is expected to stand at 750 million to 800 million by the end of 2015, according to a statement at the meeting from Gao Xinmin, deputy director of the Internet Society of China.

The two-day conference attracted dozens of elites from various Internet sectors and more than one hundred companies within the province.
