China and four African cotton-producing countries — Benin, Mali, Chad and Burkina Faso — jointly issued the Joint Press Communiqué on Cooperation in Cotton under the WTO Framework on Dec. 14, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce.

China and the four African countries confirmed that they would cooperate in cotton industry mainly by establishing bilateral cotton cooperation projects.

Also the involved parties have committed to providing fine cotton varieties as well as agricultural machines and fertilizer. The five-nation alliance will offer cotton cultivation technology demonstrations and promotion, carry out multilateral and bilateral management and technical personnel training, and support the technological upgrade and transformation as well as industrial chain expansion of bilateral business cooperation projects.
