Taiwan stocks close 0.8 pct higher

HONG KONG, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Monday with the weighted index up 55.74 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 6,949.04, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

The local bourse fluctuated between 7,002.09 and 6,923.88 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 54.29 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 1.8 billion U.S. dollars).
