HONG KONG, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition on rebuilding efforts by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in earthquake-stricken areas of China's Sichuan province opened on Thursday in Hong Kong.

Welcoming the exhibition, the city's Chief Executive Donald Tsang stressed the importance of the contributions made by the Hong Kong community toward reconstruction efforts in a prologue written for the exhibition.

"Out of the despair, loss and hopelessness have been overcome by a spirit of unity and determination which has drawn our communities closer together and helped to rebuild Sichuan," Tsang said.

Tsang also hoped that exhibition visitors will learn more about the enormous scale of the rebuilding process and feel proud of Hong Kong's efforts.
