China Mobile Vice President Li Zhengmao recently said at the 2011 GSMA Mobile Asia Congress that the new TD-LTE mobile standard successfully completed the Phase I scale trial and it has met the conditions for commercial use.

The standard achieved expected testing results in system construction, network equipment as well as terminals and other aspects. At present, China Mobile is striving to promote the Phase II scale trial.

With the approval of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Mobile commenced the implementation of TD-LTE scale trials in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen in December 2010.

By September 2011, China Mobile invested more than 600 million yuan to construct more than 850 base stations in the aforementioned six cities. As many as 11 system vendors and 17 chip manufacturers from home and abroad were attracted to participate in the development and testing. A number of chips, data cards and other terminals products were introduced. It is expected that the commercial conditions for TD-LTE will be mature by the third quarter of 2012.

Two operators have formally launched TD-LTE commercial services, and 10 operators have developed commercial plans in the world so far. It is commonly believed that as more international operators work on the TD-LTE, the TD-LTE's commercial prospects will become increasingly bright.
