Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Fan Liqing answered questions from reporters on the implementation of Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and other issues at today's routine press conference.

Fan said as long as cross-Strait relations maintain a momentum of peaceful development, cross-Strait exchange and cooperation will be further expanded.

She said various aspects of work have been advancing since the ECFA, a preferential trade agreement between the governments of the People's Republic of China and Taiwan, was established one year ago. All parties involved are accelerating the implementation of the early harvest program and have made considerable progress in either trade in goods or trade in services.

In ECFA negotiations, the Chinese mainland and Taiwan established a Committee for Economic Cooperation and determined several agendas of economic cooperation. Therefore, China believes that the ECFA is significantly effective and as long as cross-Strait relations maintain the current momentum of peaceful development, the follow-up ECFA negotiations will bring more tangible benefits for people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and anything will be possible.

Fan added that our policy on cross-Strait relations is clear and consistent, which is to say adherence to the "1992 Consensus." Recognition of the "1992 Consensus" is a necessary prerequisite for both sides to dialogue and negotiate and an important foundation for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
