Beijing, Nov.18 (People's Daily Online) --The world's first Carl Benz Academy was recently established in Beijing, the capital city of China.

Klaus Maier, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd., said, "We will attract outstanding management talent and provide them training in the Carl Benz Academy to ultimately make them competent to raise the level of our business operations in China."

Christian Schroeter, vice president of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. and head of the Carl Benz Academy program, said that Mercedes-Benz has achieved rapid development in China over recent years and will increase the number of dealerships to 200 by the end of 2011.

"We have about 22,000 retail salespersons across China, and the figure will likely reach 90,000 by 2020, which means that Mercedes-Benz has a great demand for talent," Schroeter said.

Peking University's Guanghua School of Management, the Germany-based Free University of Berlin, and the U.S.-based Woodbury University's School of Business will jointly provide pioneering courses for students at the Carl Benz Academy based on their rich hands-on experience in automobile management acquired from the world's largest auto markets: China, Germany and the United States.

Schroeter said that the first pilot program will take three years. During the period, the students will study at the three universities in China, Germany and the United States, and their credits will be recorded and recognized by the three universities. The pilot program starts with 35 students, 30 from the automaker's major franchiser groups, and five from Mercedes-Benz (China) and Mercedes-Benz Auto Finance.
