Beijing, Nov.18 (People's Daily Online) --France-based Alstom and the China Datang Corporation recently signed an official feasibility study agreement for a carbon capture and storage demonstration project in Daqing, Heilongjiang province.

According to the agreement, Alstom will use its know-how in terms of oxy-firing technology to complete the feasibility study of the 350-megawatt Oxy-Combustion carbon capture and storage demonstration project in Daqing.

The demonstration project in Daqing is scheduled to begin operations in 2015 and will be capable of capturing more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually. It will be the first large-scale demonstration project of its kind in China and Asia.

The project aims to be the most cost effective demonstration project and set a cost benchmark for the sector. Datang will increase the diversity of China's domestic carbon capture and storage technology by drawing on Alstom's advancements, utilizing its own broad expertise and techniques, and localizing designs and procurement.
