Beijing, Nov.17 (People's Daily Online) --Water and soil conservation facilities at the Three Gorges Dam area have passed the acceptance test of China's Ministry of Water Resources, according to the ministry.

These facilities have helped heal more than 2,000 hectares, or nearly 98 percent, of the eroded land in the area. In addition, the tree and grass recovery rate and coverage in the area have reached nearly 98 percent and more than 35 percent, respectively.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources of China Liu Ning said that it is important to properly carry out soil and water conservation work as well as effectively control water loss and soil erosion of the Three Gorges Project region.

Liu said conservation has practical and historic significance for guaranteeing the safe operation of the project, making sure the project steadily brings results, improving the ecological environment, promoting economic and social development, and promoting a culture of ecology.
