Beijing, Nov.16 (People's Daily Online) --In a recent interview, Xu Heyi, board chairman of the Beijing Automotive Group, gave a solemn vow: His company will never return to the old road of producing low-end products.

In Xu's opinion, the development bottleneck currently faced by China's domestic auto brands is caused by the long-term accumulation of various problems and contradictions. In the past decade, most domestic auto brands started by producing low-end products, occupied the low-end market scorned or ignored by joint venture auto enterprises and obtained certain development space.

But, now that the prices of cars from joint venture auto enterprises are starting to decline, the domestic brands are inevitably facing a tightening "brand chain."

"Domestic auto brands must not engage in speculation, even a little bit," Xu said. "If we do not upgrade our technologies, we will not even be able to reach the standards of the energy-saving and environmental protection laws recently made by China, let alone competing with the joint ventures."

Only if they face difficulties bravely and develop toward the high-end market, can they have a chance to compete in the international market, he said.

"The Beijing Automotive Group will walk on a road of opening up to innovate and integrate all factors to innovate. We will stand on the shoulder of the giants and never walk on the old road of producing low-end products," explained Xu.
