Chinese officials warn of protectionism in solar panel sector

NANCHANG, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese officials on Saturday warned of rising international protectionism in the solar panel sector, noting China's manufacturers should keep alert and work to expand domestic market to reduce reliance on foreign demand.

The excessive reliance on foreign market creates great risks for domestic solar panel producers, Ding Wenwu, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at a forum in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province.

"Any policy change in foreign countries will cause turbulence in the domestic industry," he said.

China's solar energy sector has been booming in recent years as the country is looking to new energy resources to trim reliance on coal and oil.

Currently, China leads the world in solar cell manufacturing and exports, with more than 90 percent of its products exported.

Ding's comments came after the U.S. Department of Commerce said Wednesday that it will conduct an investigation to determine whether Chinese companies have been selling solar panels in the United States at unfair discounts and receiving illegimate government subsidies.

I agreed that US is very scare of china coming up that is why each time china made a move US will said something no good which panic neighbourhood countries. I do not know why US has a big mouth. Example china started building aircraft carrier the US will made noise. Don't you think it is a shame to the whole world. What is the reason behind US- is US scare that other country will be No 1 and US No 10. Secondly trade war with china and currency manipulating. I really think US is out of its mind

Don't worry, the US has a track record of not being competitive in the high tech, high vol products. Just appease them and let the business develop naturally. The US solar panel probe is a waste of time. This business like the flat panel display business which naturally gravitate to Asian manufacturers with superior cost and manufacturing capability.
Reduce trade with USA. at 2011-11-13220.255.2.*
China should always consider itself like a united China. You should increase trade among your 23 provinces. You should slowly reduce your trade with USA in the next decades. During the past three decades, I had noticed that whenever USA lose out in the competition in any products, US give excuses and blamed China for things such as currency manipulation and for thing such as below cost dumping by China in US, etc. Whatever you do, please develop your products to a much better quality products and better efficiency products. Once you are able to increase the efficiency of your solar panels to 10 times better than USA products, it is ok if USA is not going to buy your products. In fact you do not have to sell to them since they are not happy. Sell it to third world countries, to Europe, India and Africa and let our brothers in Europe, India and Africa make money by selling to USA instead. Let USA buy solar panels from Europe, India and Africa at much higher cost if they prefer this way. No point talking to unreasonable people. Just concentrate on your quality and efficiency of all your products. This is the only way to prevent problems with USA. Concentrate on Asia, Europe and Africa. Reduce your trade with USA. That is the way forward.
