Sinohydro submits bid for Ecuador power deal: report

10:38, September 02, 2011

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sinohydro Corp. is bidding for a 200-million-U.S. dollar hydropower station deal in Ecuador, China Daily reported Friday.

The deal is part of Ecuador's efforts to develop clean technologies, the newspaper quoted Ding Zhengguo, assistant president of Sinohydro, as saying.

The South American country has been trying to advance renewable energy in recent years to replace thermal power and cut power imports, while Chinese companies have been actively participating in Ecuador's drive to develop clean energies.

Last year, Sinohydro sealed a deal with Ecuador to build a 1.7-billion-U.S. dollar Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant, the largest infrastructure project ever in the country.

Hector Villagran, Ecuadorian commercial counselor in China, said he hoped that more Chinese companies to invest in or undertake projects in Ecuador, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, and agriculture, according to the newspaper.
