09:15, September 07, 2011

SANAA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Yemeni government on Tuesday officially recognized the Republic of South Sudan, the state-run Saba news agency reported.

South Sudan was officially declared independent on July 9, 2011, according to the results of a referendum held in January under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) inked between north and south Sudan in 2005.

It was admitted as a new member state by the United Nations General Assembly on July 14.
