BAGHDAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Seven people, including a police officer, were wounded in two roadside bomb attacks in Baghdad and Iraq's northern central province of Salahudin on Sunday, the police said.

In Salahudin province, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Jaafar, chief of a police station in the town of al-Ishaqi, escaped with wounds a roadside bomb explosion near his car while driving in the town, a local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Two passers-by were also injured by the blast in the town, some 90 km north of Baghdad, the source said.

In Baghdad, a roadside bomb ripped through Baiyaa district in southwestern the capital around midday, wounding four civilians, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Earlier in the day, the police reported the killing of an Iraqi army officer and the wounding of six soldiers in twin roadside bomb attacks targeted the Iraqi security forces in Baghdad's northern district of Adhamiyah.

Violence and sporadic attacks are still common in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the past few years.
