Yemen's air forces raided al- Qaida hideouts on Sunday evening in the southern volatile province of Abyan, killing at least 10 terrorists and injuring 20 others, local army officers told Xinhua.

Three successful air raids targeted several hideouts and gatherings of the terrorists scattered along the surrounding areas of the al-Qaida-seized Zinjibar city, the provincial capital of Abyan province, killing 10 and injuring 20, an officer said on condition of anonymity.

"The air raids hit several al-Qaida targets along the way linking the al-Wahda Sport Stadium and the Zinjibar city, causing huge casualties and damages to the terrorist group fortifications, " he said.

"The al-Qaida militants were fighting back against the 25th Mechanized Brigade," he added.

"A number of the terrorists were seized by the army troops and large amounts of their ammunition and weapons were also confiscated," another officer said.

Meanwhile, five leading members of the al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula were captured by tribesmen fighters in the Luader district, a local tribal chief told Xinhua.

"Five al-Qaida militants were captured by tribesmen fighters while they were trying to break into the Luader district and we handed them over to the army troops stationed in the region," the tribal source said.

A local medic at the Basuhib military hospital in Aden told Xinhua that seven soldiers were receiving treatment at the hospital after they were injured in the fierce clashes erupted Sunday evening between the army forces backed by armed tribesmen and the al-Qaida militants in the al-Hassan Valley.

Abyan, some 480 km south of the capital Sanaa, has become almost under control of resurgent al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula since the militants seized the provincial capital city of Zinjibar late in May.
