All int'l missions in Kosovo must be status-neutral: Serbian minister

09:09, March 21, 2012

BELGRADE, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic urged Tuesday that all international missions in Kosovo must be status-neutral.

In a meeting with Knut Vollebaek, the High Commissioner on National Minorities of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Bogdanovic pointed to the difficulties facing all non-Albanian communities in the province.

Bogdanovic thanked Vollebaek for his engagement in building trust among the various ethnic communities in Kosovo-Metohija, reiterating the necessity of respecting UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and of the status-neutral position of all international missions in the province.

He stressed that there are still ethnically-motivated conflicts in the province, as well as distrust between members of various ethnic communities.

This problem can be resolved by finding the perpetrators of all crimes, because otherwise there can be no reconciliation and consequently no trust or tolerance.

Vollebaek affirmed readiness for further OSCE engagement in Kosovo-Metohija within its mandate and voiced his interest in the protection of churches and monasteries in the province.

He noted that the OSCE will continue to work on issues relevant to the exercise of the fundamental human rights of all communities in the province.
