Finland's embassy staff in Damascus leaves Syria

09:56, March 20, 2012

HELSINKI, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Finland's embassy staff in Damascus had left Syria due to "weakened security situation" in the country, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Monday.

The duties covering the embassy's area of responsibility (Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq) will be temporarily managed from Helsinki, capital of Finland.

The Foreign Ministry urges Finnish people to avoid travel in Syria, and Finnish citizens still in Syria are advised to leave the country.
