Russian, U.S. space agencies cooperate to keep ISS working

09:57, August 26, 2011

MOSCOW, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Russian space agency Roscosmos and NASA were working to maintain International Space Station (ISS) operations after a Russian Progress cargo ship failed to reach the orbit, Roscosmos said Thursday.

The two space agencies had been working out the issues connected with launches of cargo and manned spaceships to the ISS, the Roscosmos spokeswoman Anna Vedisheva told the Interfax news agency.

Roscosmos head Vladimir Popovkin made a decision to set up a special working group to control the execution of Russian space program, she said.

The group would check all carrier rockets, Progress cargo ships and Soyuz TMA manned ships which had been prepared for launches.

On Wednesday, the Progress M-12M cargo ship failed to reach the orbit after the engine of the Soyuz-U carrier rocket shut off during the ascent. As a result, some three tons of cargo were lost.
