Four soldiers wounded in PKK attack in southeastern Turkey

ANKARA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Four Turkish soldiers were wounded in an attack by the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported .

Diyarbakir Governor Mustafa Toprak was quoted as saying that a group of PKK members opened fire on the security forces in a rural area near the village of Degirmendere in Ergani town.

"Four troops were wounded in the attack. One of them is in life-threatening condition," Toprak said.

The governor added that a large-scale operation was under way in the region to capture the PKK rebels.

On the same day, five PKK members surrendered to the security forces in the province of Sirnak in southeastern Turkey, the report said.
