BENGHAZI, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited the Libyan rebel base Benghazi Tuesday to prepare for the coming Libya contact group meeting.

The contact group on Libya will convene in Istanbul on the political-director level on Thursday, Davutoglu said at a press conference after meeting with Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the head of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC).

The meeting will consider Libyans' needs and discuss concrete steps, Davutoglu said.

The minister said NATO will continue military campaign in Libya until full security is achieved in the nation. He also called on the international society to release the frozen Libyan assets in an effort to help the Libyan people.

"A democratic and free Libya should be built and the unity of the country must be protected," said Davutoglu, adding that Turkey would continue to support the international recognition for the NTC.

Turkey had provided 100 million U.S. dollars of relief funds and 200 million dollars of loans to Libya, he said.

The Turkish foreign minister said he had held a series of phone conversations Monday with his counterparts in the United States, France, UAE, Qatar, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Britain about the recent developments in Libya.
