Estonia, Finland support Russia's WTO bid

09:50, August 23, 2011

TALLINN, August 22 (Xinhua) -- Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and Finland's Minister for EU Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb have expressed their countries' support for Russia's bid to enter the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"Estonia and Finland endorse Russia's accession to the WTO as soon as possible. Russia's accession would be an added security factor for entrepreneurs," said Paet during a visit from the Finnish delegation.

Estonian Public Broadcasting reported that the two leaders agreed to encourage countries that have chosen the path of democracy to join the EU.

"After Croatia, the next country to join could be Iceland. But further expansion should happen in the western Balkans, so accession talks with Serbia are in order," Paet added.
