MOSCOW, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Sukhoi T-50 stealth fighter jet had to quit a show flight Sunday, after it failed to take off due to technical reasons at the MAKS 2011 international air show near Moscow.

The fighter, which has just made its public debut on the second day of the week-long air show, was planned to have an exhibition flight at the closure of MAKS.

However, the pilot of the fifth-generation fighter opened the brake parachute when the plane was already at about 100 kilometers an hour, aborting the takeoff, the RIA Novosti news agency said.

A spokesman of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) told local media that the pilot decided to stop takeoff after finding engine malfunction during acceleration.

The pilot was not injured and the aircraft was not damaged.

T-50 is a multipurpose front-line fighter designed in Sukhoi bureau and built in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the Russian Far East. The plane made its maiden test flight in January 2010. It will replace older warplanes and also be exported to India.

Russian Air Force Commander Alexander Zelin told reporters at the air show opening that trial samples of the T-50 fighter jet will be supplied to the air force in 2013 and be put in active service in 2014-2015.
