Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi underwent a wrist surgery here on Friday to fix carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful condition caused by compression of a key nerve.

"The operation was very successful, it was quick and simple, without complications or problems," the Italian press quoted Berlusconi's surgeon Alberto Lazzerini as saying.

According to the surgeon, the 74-year-old prime minister "has already started reusing his right hand and he will regain complete use in 10 days."

Last October, Berlusconi had an identical operation on his left wrist, while earlier this month he paid a quick visit to a Milan hospital after suffering mild concussion when he slipped in the shower.
