Finnish police on Thursday arrested an 18-year-old man after items which can be used to make explosives was found in his home, local media reported.

Police said the man had purchased 10 kilogram of nitrate fertilizers, a popular terrorist component for bombs, from Poland.

Europe has been on high alert after a Norwegian extremist killed 76 people in a downtown explosion in Oslo on Friday and a following shooting rampage on the Utoeya island some 40 kilometers away.

Local media cited police as saying the man had hoped to make his own fireworks with the fertilizer, and the case is not connected to the massacre in Norway.
