SANTIAGO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and his Argentine counterpart Cristina Fernandez signed here Friday six agreements to deepen integration of their countries.

"The agreements we have signed are part of the long way we have been building since long time ago" toward integration, Fernandez noted after the signing ceremony.

The accords cover bilateral cooperation in the fields of medicine development, policing and border control. The two sides also agreed to mutually recognize professional degrees and open part of their borders.

Many people think the Andes mountain range separates Chile and Argentina, said Pinera, but "we want to make it a point of unity" and achieve "total and definite integration."

Chile's commitment is to "go forward something more" so that "the borders can be overthrown," he added.

"In the next months and years, we will take very important decisions on energy connectivity that will allow us to use, in a more intelligent way, the resources of both countries," Fernandez pledged.

During her two-day official visit to Chile, Fernandez also talked with Pinera about the disputed Malvinas Islands, which are called Falkland Islands in Britain.

Pinera reaffirmed Chile's "firmest" support to Argentina's claim of sovereignty over the Islands, which have been administered by Britain since 1833.
