U.S. issues worldwide travel alert after Iran plot exposed

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans late Tuesday after an Iranian plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Washington was exposed.

"The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens of the potential for anti-U.S. actions following the disruption of a plot, linked to Iran, to commit a significant terrorist act in the United States," authorities said in a statement.

The alert said the "Iranian-backed plan to assassinate the Saudi ambassador may indicate a more aggressive focus by the Iranian government on terrorist activity," which was aimed at diplomats from certain nations, including the United States.

The worldwide terror alert, which will expire on Jan. 11, came after the U.S. Justice Department earlier Tuesday accused two men, including an Iranian-born U.S. citizen, of conspiring to kill the Saudi Arabian envoy Adel al-Jubeir and planning bomb attacks against Saudi and Israeli embassies in the United States.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast Tuesday rejected the U.S. accusations, terming them as an "incorrect" and "prefabricated scenario," the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

What a joke this new fabricated drama from the US establishment is! The US"s rulers are not only getting more desperate, but more pathetic in their plots against Iran. It"s interesting this new drama surfaced on the heels of the Saudis publicly loathing the US"s "peace" efforts on the Palestine front. As usual, when it comes to Iran the Saudis rant first and think later. The Iranian leadership would have to be completely stupid to sanction such a plot as they would give already hostile neighbors more excuses to tow the Usrael line.
