Death toll climbs to 7 in Indiana State Fair stage collapse

CHICAGO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police said a 24-year-old woman who was among those injured when the stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair, died late Sunday, bringing the death toll to seven, according to local media reports.

Meagan Toothman, the seventh victim of the stage collapse was a cheerleading coach at a Cincinnati high school. She was injured when the collapse happened while fans were waiting for the band Sugarland to perform on Aug. 13.

Toothman died from injuries suffered in the collapse, according to the police.

The stage collapsed when high winds sent the rigging crashing down on the audience, moments after an announcer warned of the advancing storm and gave instructions on what to do in event of an evacuation. Hundreds of fans awaiting a performance by Sugarland rushed afterward amid the chaos.
