09:16, August 05, 2011

Firefighters in the Russian Far East have extinguished 13 wildfires but are still battling 10 others.

One of the fires is in the Magadan Region, two others are in Yakutia, and seven are in Khabarovsky Kray.

Over 350 people and a variety of equipment, including 15 aircraft, are involved in the firefighting.

Wildfires are common in Russia's forested regions during the dry, hot summer season. Most of the time, the fires are started by carelessness.
