Fiji to be first country in the world celebrates New Year

SUVA, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Fiji will be the first country in the world to welcome the New Year 2012 with the Legend FM a local popular radio station's Annual Fiji Street party and Vodafone this Saturday, local media reported Monday.

The organizer, Total Event Company Manager Loretta Jackson, said that preparations are well underway and for the first time it will be hosted from the main stage on the Albert Park pavilion platform in Suva.

Jackson told media that it will be the largest one night event in the South Pacific where visitors, tourists and locals are invited to celebrate the new-year in style with Fijians.

She said visitors to the event will see major changes in the look of the show as the island nation like the world over departs with 2011 and welcomes 2012.

Celebrating togetherness will be the theme for the New Year's Eve festivities in the Sugar City in Lautoka Fiji's western division which is promising to be the biggest ever party in the west to date.

Lautoka special administrator Praveen Bala told media that the unique spirit of brother and sisterhood that crossed all boundaries of ethnic, religious and social barriers will be celebrated at the Rara Rumble on Dec. 31.
