Indonesia to deploy 87,000 cops to secure Christmas, New Year's Eve

JAKARTA, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian police will deploy 87, 000 personnel throughout Indonesia to secure Christmas and New Year's Eve celebration, the country's largest news portal detik. com reported on Thursday.

National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo said that the police will be deployed in a mission named Operation Candle 2011, hoping that the celebration could run smoothly.

He also called on people to participate in guarding security.
