Indian PM arrives in Bangladesh's capital on 2-day visit

DHAKA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Dhaka Tuesday morning, starting a 2-day official visit to Bangladesh.

Singh makes the visit at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. This is the first visit to Bangladesh by an Indian prime minister in 12 years.

During his visit, Singh and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold one-to-one talk, followed by the delegation level official talks on Tuesday. After the official meeting, the two prime ministers will sign a comprehensive framework agreement on cooperation in different fields.

A series of deals including land boundary demarcation and transit facilities will be signed between the two South Asian neighbors.

The two prime ministers will also sign MoUs on extension of railway route, cooperation in renewable energy and fisheries, conservation of mangrove forest Sundarbans and conservation of Royal Bengal Tiger.

Besides, Dhaka and New Delhi will sign exchange of letter on the use of Bangladesh's seaports Chittagong and Mongla by India.

Singh will meet with Bangladeshi President Zillur Rahman and is going to deliver a lecture in Dhaka University on Wednesday.
