ULAN BATOR, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia is hosting joint military exercises with Russia near its capital, in a bid to strengthen bilateral collaboration in the fight against terrorism and extremism, local press reported Monday.

The drill, being held at Mongolia's Tavan Tolgoi military training center till Sept. 10, involves some 500 soldiers, including Russian motorized infantry, mortar and tank troops, engineers and sappers, as well as a Mongolian infantry battalion, according to the report.

The event is the second stage of the "Selenge 2011" bilateral drill during which the Russian troops are expected to share the techniques and experiences with their Mongolian peers on how to fight illegal militants. The first stage was already conducted in Russia's Buryatia Republic.
