Moderate quake hits eastern Indonesia

A quake with magnitude of 5.3 jolted Maluku province in eastern parts of Indonesia on Monday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.

The quake struck at 6:05 a.m. Jakarta time Monday (2305 GMT Sunday) with the epicenter at 127 km northeast of Tual and at a depth of 94 km, an official of the agency told Xinhua.

Indonesia is prone to earthquake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
