BANGKOK, Jan. 15 -- The residence of Thai Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva in Bangkok sustained a bomb attack on Tuesday night, local media reported Wednesday.

Police reportedly identified the bomb as big firecrackers, which caused damage to the residence but injured no one as Abhisit and his family were not inside when the attack took place, according to the Nation newspaper.

A woman and three men were later arrested by the police on suspicion of conducting the attack, but they have been released for lack of evidence.

A core leader of the anti-government protest Thaworn Senneam was quoted as saying the suspects were also responsible for smuggling and supplying weapons used for a shooting around midnight that injured two people.

The Bangkok shutdown operation, launched by protesters to force the caretaker government to step down, entered its third day on Wednesday.

The government is currently holding a meeting to discuss whether to postpone the Feb. 2 general election, yet in the absence of representatives from the Democrat Party and anti- government People's Democratic Reform Committee.
