MANILA, Nov. 27 -- The death toll from typhoon Haiyann in central Philippines has soared to 5,500 by Wednesday, Philippine state agency said.
As another 260 bodies were retrieved from typhoon affected areas, the death toll rose from 5,240 to 5,500, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council announced at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Among the newly increased number, 207 came from Tacloban city, 46 from other parts of Leyte province and seven from neighboring Samar province.
The number of missing was 1,757 and the injured came to 26,136.
