DAMASCUS, Nov. 19 -- The Syrian delegation to Moscow has carried out discussions with the Russian officials in "good and comfortable" atmospheres, the local al-Watan newspaper said Tuesday.
The delegation of Syrian officials, including presidential advisor Bouthaina Shaaban and Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad met with senior Russian diplomats in Moscow on Monday to discuss the prospects for the so-called Geneva II peace conference on Syria.
The outcome of the discussions with the Russian officials has not been made public, but al-Watan newspaper cited a source in Damascus as saying the discussions were "good and comfortable."
Russia has invited Syrian opposition groups to travel to Moscow for talks aimed at bridging their differences on the planned Geneva peace conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Leaders of the Istanbul-based Syrian National Coalition (SNC) " did not refuse to come to Moscow, and they are studying our proposal," Lavrov told a news briefing.
The flurry of diplomatic activities in Moscow aimed at paving the way for a successful peace conference in Geneva, experts in Damascus said.
The long-delayed peace conference is expected to take place in Geneva in mid-December, according to al-Watan paper.
