PODGORICA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Montenegro's election authorities on Monday declared that incumbent President Filip Vujanovic won a third term.
Vujanovic, from the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), got 51.2 percent of the vote, while his challenger Miodrag Lekic won 48.8 percent, according to figures released by the state electoral commission.
Both Vujanovic and Lekic claimed victory on Sunday after the voting, based on the accounting of their own.
DPS officials said the official results should end the controversy.
However, Lekic's Democratic Front, the main opposition, said the block would not accept another term for Vujanovic.
Senior party members of the Democratic Front said it would freeze participation in all parliamentary working groups, local media reported.
The president plays only a ceremonial role in Montenegro, with real power being exercised by the prime minister.
