NEW DELHI, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The friend of the 23-year-old medical student who died last week after being gang raped in mid December in the Indian capital came out for the first time on TV Friday evening, and recounted the hell they went through.
Talking to local channel Zee TV, the man, identified as Avaindra Pratap Pandey, said after they were brutalized and thrown onto a road, they were lying in the cold night for 20 minutes as no person or vehicle who passed stopped to help them.
The 28-year-old software engineer said: "We were lying in the cold night for 20 minutes. We had no clothes. Many cars and auto- rickshaws came and passed by us but no one stopped to offer us help. Even though I was crying for help."
He also said police and hospital did not provide them with help at first.
"Three PCR (Police Control Room vans) came and they left. In the hospital, no one even thought of giving us a quilt," he said.
He confirmed that their attackers also tried to run over them after dumping them onto the road.
"I wish I could have saved her," he said.
