MOSCOW, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday condemned a recent attack on the U.S. consulate in Libyan city of Benghazi, which claimed lives of four U.S. diplomats.

"The only possible attitude to this is that we condemn this crime and express our condolences to the victims' families," Putin told reporters at his residence in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

"Killing is a horrible crime, and in this case it was the killing of diplomats, who are protected by international conventions," he said.

Meanwhile, Putin reiterated his argument that the West should not support conflicts between protesters and the regimes, as the conflicts could lead to unpredictable and hazardous consequences.
