6-magnitude quake hits Hokkaido in Japan -- Hong Kong Observatory

HONG KONG, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale rocked Hokkaido in Japan at 1416 GMT on Saturday, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

In a related development, the U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Hokkaido, Japan region.

The epicenter, with a depth of 44.60 km, was initially determined to be at 42.3572 degrees north latitude and 143.0111 degrees east longitude.
