HOUSTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two people were injured and about a hundred others evacuated Saturday after a blast occurred at a commercial oilfield building in Elk City, the U.S. state of Oklahoma, local media reported.

Firefighters rushed to the scene to curb a large fire caused by the explosion at the Hodges Trucking, and thick black smoke could be seen belching miles away from the scene, according to the reports posted on the website of The Oklahoman, a local English daily.

A spokesman for the Fire Department of Elk City, about 192 kilometers west of Oklahoma City, said that residents living in homes within a radius of two kilometers away from the building were evacuated due to heavy smoke.

Hodges Trucking, which is an affiliate of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy, the second largest natural gas producer in the U.S., provides trucking services for the oil field industry.

The cause of the explosion is not immediately available.
