MANILA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Nineteen more people were reported killed in the Philippines, bringing the total death toll due to floods brought by monsoon rains to 85, the Philippine government announced Sunday morning.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said in its report issued at 5 a.m. Sunday, among the casualties, 12 were killed in landslide, 62 died due to drowning, and the others died either by lightning, falling trees or electrocution.

More than 3 million people in 16 provinces were affected by the worst flood since 2009. Of the total number, 768,989 are still living in various concentration centers, the report said.

The total cost of damages to infrasturcture and agriculture in north and central Luzon region was estimated at 604 million pesos (14.46 million U.S. dollars).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast two to three storms may hit the country this month. A low pressure was observed at 1,020 kilometers east of Central Luzon, but it was still too far to affect any part of the country within the next 24 hours, Pagasa said.
