Egypt's Morsi meets with EU foreign policy chief

CAIRO, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi held talks on Thursday with European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on economic cooperation and the political situation in Egypt.

The two sides explored ways to assist all fields of Egypt to develop, and discussed the political situation in the country as well as in the Middle East with particular focus on the democratic development in Egypt.

Ashton told reporters that the EU will provide assistance to Egypt as it is a friendly country and hopes for a quick solution to its parliament crisis.

The EU official arrived in Cairo on Wednesday. She will also meet the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' head Hussein Tantawi and Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi, official MENA news agency said.
